Recommendations (International Applicants)

Many colleges will require you to invite a recommender to provide an assessment or endorsement of you, allowing colleges to get a better idea of who you are. Depending on the school's specific requirements, you can invite individuals like a counselor, a teacher, or even your boss at work to be one of your recommenders.

If there is no counselor at your school, you may list your principal or other school official who has overseen your academic progress. This school official must also complete the School Profile and School Report. You can invite recommenders on the "Recommenders and FERPA" section located on the My Colleges tab.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • How many recommendations do I need for the schools I am applying to?
  • What types of recommendations do I need?
  • Who will provide my recommendations?
  • Will my recommenders use the Common App online recommendation system?
